What is the story behind Restoranto?
Founded in 2015 by Silja Thor and Ralph de Groot, the Restoranto brand is built on its ‘You Eat, You Feed’ mission – the donation of a meal for every meal enjoyed via its services. Their mission was inspired by the poverty and malnutrition they saw during their travels around East Africa, and the effects this had on communities.

 

Restoranto’s inspiration came from an old Ugandan proverb “Gava mu kulya” which means food is the source of energy, power and wisdom. There is so much depth to this saying. We truly believe that food is the beginning of everything. Proper nutrition should be the right of every person, so we strive to make this possible. Moreover, a satisfied stomach can ignite a brilliant mind into achieving amazing things.

What is Restoranto?
Restoranto is an app through which you can book, order and pay for a Restaurant visit. Through our app, you can search for restaurants, browse through restaurants’ menus and book tables. You can also pre-order. When you pre-order, the food will be ready when you arrive.

At the restaurant, you can use Restoranto to order food and drinks. During your meal you can easily place more orders for drinks and dishes. When you are ready to leave you can directly and easily pay for your stay using the app.

 

For every meal you enjoy through Restoranto, we donate a meal to Mark.

Who is Mark?
Mark is anyone who goes to bed hungry at night. There are more than 800 million Marks in the world and many of them live in Uganda. We believe Mark deserves a voice, dignity and a name other than ‘a person in need’, or ‘a hungry person’. We aim to provide Mark with all of this.

Using Restoranto, each meal turns into a opportunity for Mark to discover the world and develop into someone that will be able to contribute to his community.

How does Restoranto work?
Simply download our app and sign up! After signing up, you can immediately start browsing through restaurants and deals. If you find anything to your liking, you can book a table, or pre-order your meal if you’d like your meal to be ready upon arrival. When you arrive at the restaurant, you can start ordering food and drinks. Throughout your meal, you can easily order more food or drinks via the Restoranto app. When your meal is completed, you can simply press pay and pay for your meal.
On what devices can I use Restoranto?
Restoranto can be used on iOS and Android.
What are pre-orders?
Pre-orders are meal orders that are made prior to arriving at the restaurant and for which you pay in advance. You can specify when you would like your food to be served. When you arrive at the restaurant you won’t have to go through the process of ordering, and you won’t have to wait for you food to be prepared.

Entering the Restaurant

Do I need to show my phone?
No, you do not have to show your phone at the restaurant. We do, however, recommend notifying the restaurant that you will be using Restoranto.
I’m 5 minutes late, is that a problem?
No, it shouldn’t be a problem. However, like with any other appointment, being on time is an appropriate thing to do. If you are going to be late, please notify the restaurant directly.  

Creating an Account

How do I create a Restoranto account?
  1. Download Restoranto
  2. Create your account by clicking the bottom button. Alternatively you can sign up with Facebook.
How do I invite a friend?
In the Restoranto app, you can go to ‘refer a friend’ and invite your friends. For each friend you invite and downloads Restoranto, we’ll donate a meal to Mark!

Last Minute Deals

How do I find restaurant deals?
In the app, you will be shown restaurant deals based on where you are, which restaurants you have liked, and what deals were selected especially for you by our algorithm.
Do Restoranto deals expire?
Yes, they do. Every deal you see will have a ‘time remaining’ button. If the time expired you’ll have 30 minutes of travelling time remaining. If you do not arrive within that time, the deal will not be available anymore.

Booking and Ordering

How do I make a booking?
  1. Open the Restoranto app
  2. Browse through restaurants and select one
  3. Select ‘book’
  4. Fill in the date, time and number of people
  5. After you’ve finished your booking, you can choose to place a pre-order. Alternatively you can order in the restaurant, by selecting ‘check in’ when you arrive there at the time of your reservation.
I have a special request for the restaurant. What can I do?
When you create your booking, you can add a message to your booking. There you can mention your allergies or other special requests.
What happens if I book, but I don’t show up?
If you make a booking but don’t show up, and you didn’t cancel your booking, you’ll get a yellow card. If this happens again, you will no longer be able to make use of Restoranto.

Cancelling a Booking

How do I cancel a booking?
Here’s how you cancel a booking:

  1. Go to ‘my bookings’
  2. Find your booking
  3. Select ‘cancel’
I can’t go. Do I need to call the restaurant?
If you created a booking but are unable to go, please inform the restaurant by calling them and please cancel the booking in the app.

Here’s how you cancel a booking:

  1. Go to ‘my bookings’
  2. Find your booking
  3. Select ‘cancel’
I made a booking and didn't order yet, but I changed my mind. Can I still cancel?
Yes, you can. You can cancel your booking by going to my bookings and selecting cancel.

 

Alternatively  you can cancel by calling the restaurant. 

What happens if I book, but I don’t show up?
If you make a booking but don’t show up, and you didn’t cancel your booking, you’ll get a yellow card. If this happens again, you will no longer be able to make use of Restoranto.

Problems with a Booking

I can’t select a date or time in my booking. What’s wrong?
This means the restaurant is closed at that time. Please select another date or pick another restaurant.
I didn’t receive a booking confirmation. What happened?
Your booking confirmation was sent to your email. If you can’t find it, please check your spam folder. If you’re still unable to find your booking confirmation, shoot an email to info@restoranto.com and we’ll help you out!
The restaurant didn’t receive my order. What do I do?
If for some reason the restaurant didn’t receive your order, please shoot us an email at info@restoranto.com and we’ll help you out!
I booked, but the restaurant was full. What do I do?
If you booked a restaurant, but for some reason it was full, please let us know at info@restoranto.com. In the meantime, you can use Restoranto to discover a new restaurant.

Special Requests and Allergy Information

What type of restaurants are on Restoranto?
All kinds of eateries, restaurants and bars are on Restoranto, as long as they serve food. During our month long pilot we’re starting with Very Italian Pizza, next to the Blaak train station in Rotterdam, but in the following weeks and months we’ll be adding more restaurants.
What information can I find about the restaurant?
You can find general information on the restaurant, such as the address, opening hours, and telephone number by clicking the “contact” option in the app.
I have a special request for the restaurant. What can I do?
When you create your booking, you can add a message to your booking. There you can mention your allergies or other special requests.

Donations – You Eat, You Feed

Do you really donate a meal for every booking?
Yes, we do. We cooperate with the GAVAProject (www.gavaproject.com). GAVA donates meals to children who attend school in the Kazo community in Uganda.
How much does it cost Restoranto to donate a meal?
As GAVA is working closely with the local community in Kazo and can buy food items directly from farmers and local vendors, we are able to keep the costs down. GAVA is able to cook meals for 900 Ugandan Shillings per serving, which equals around €0,20-0,30 per meal.
Is it possible to donate directly to give meals?
Yes, it is. Please visit www.gavaproject.com and donate there.

Payment

How do I pay with Restoranto?
After you’ve created your order and selected your dishes, you can complete your order by selecting ‘Pay’. You can then pay using a Credit card or iDeal.
What are the Restoranto payment methods?
You can pay with iDeal or Credit card.
Am I required to tip a restaurant?
No, you are not required to tip a restaurant. However, feel free to show your appreciation if you enjoyed your stay at the restaurant.

Costs

How much does it cost to download the app?
Nothing. The app is free to use. You can download Restoranto here.
How much does it cost to make a booking?
Booking a table is free. You only pay for the food and drinks you order at the restaurant.  

Receipts

Where are my Restoranto receipts stored?
You can view your receipts in two ways:

 

  1. In the Restoranto app:
    Go to ‘my booking’ and tap the booking you would like to see the receipt for.

  2. In your email inbox:
    Restoranto sends you your receipts by email. You can search your inbox for ‘Restoranto’.

Reviews, Feedback and Complaints

How can I review a restaurant?
After you’ve paid your bill, you’re asked to review a restaurant. Reviewing a restaurant doesn’t apply for pre-ordered visits, but only when you ordered in the restaurant.
How can I give feedback?
We’d love to hear from you. Please send us a message at info@restoranto.com, and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible. Your feedback will help us keep our standards high.
I don't like my food. What do I do?
If your food is bad or not to your liking, please notify the restaurant directly. We would, however, also like to hear your feedback to ensure that we can keep our standards high.
I had a bad experience with a restaurant, where can I complain?
We’d love to hear from you, but we do not take responsibility for the restaurants. The restaurants are responsible for the quality of service they provide. Please do send us a message at info@restoranto.com, and we’ll reply as soon as possible. Your feedback will help us in keeping our standards high.
I booked, but the restaurant was full. What do I do?

What kind of restaurants is Restoranto looking for?
Every restaurant is welcomed by Restoranto. The most ideal restaurant, however, is one that focuses on the same target audience as we do. We describe our target audience as Young Urban Professionals. Some qualities that will fit with Restoranto are:

  • Innovative, actively trying to serve your customers as best as possible.
  • Relatively short lead time. You aim to serve multiple customers per night at the same table.
  • Business lunches – ideal for our pre-order service!
How much extra work will I have when working with Restoranto?
Besides having to look at the tablet for incoming orders, your chef have to cook more, of course!
What if something goes wrong with a customer order?
Our account managers are ready for you 24/7. Call us, text, or send an email. Not a problem.
Does my restaurant need to take care of the payment?
Users of the application that pre-order will have paid using the application before coming to your restaurant. Orders that users make when they are in your restaurant will also be paid using the application. This means you won’t even have to think about the payment!

 

However, if for some reasons a user wants to pay by cash or card, this is also possible!
